A few years ago Jane and I were talking about our bucket lists. I named a few things, then narrowed it down to just one: experience a total solar eclipse. We checked, and saw that one was coming up nearby in 2017. We started planning.
One of my first plans was to listen to “Total Eclipse of the Heart” (while instead singing “Total Eclipse of the Sun”) for the entire trip. There and back, and especially on eclipse day. I thought I was hilarious. Still do.
Thanks to Jane, other plans were made as well. We headed down to Wyoming, found an awesome little town, and settled in to watch the eclipse at a small park. We had ice cream (because IT’S THE ECLIPSE!!!). We had coffee (because IT’S THE ECLIPSE!!!). We relaxed while the kids played (because IT’S THE ECLIPSE!!!).
And we enjoyed about two minutes of total solar eclipse (because IT’S THE ECLIPSE!!!!!). It was awesome. It was bizarre. It was easily the most spectacular experience of my life. If you have the opportunity to go to one, I highly recommend it.

But I forgot to sing. Not even once. It completely slipped my mind until the day after the eclipse, and by then it seemed pointless. Sigh...
And now I’m apparently ready to kick the bucket.
Once upon a time I was falling in love
Now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the sun
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the sun
