Lead, Kindly Light

A wise man taught me a dangerous prayer: “Lord, whatever you ask me to do, I will do.”

That was a little over 20 years ago. I have prayed that prayer many times. It can be scary. It requires trust, an awful lot more than I usually want to give. It requires faith, more than I sometimes have. But it’s led me on quite a journey.

These Times

As I write this we are busy preparing for Bishop Mark’s installation as the new bishop of Saskatoon tonight. It’s an energetic time. Everyone has been running around, getting things ready. Invitations were sent, a dinner and a reception organized, travel plans and accommodations organized for about 20 (20!) other bishops, and so much more. My little contribution has been working to live stream the Mass (hopefully). It’s been quite crazy around here.

But this morning, everything seems a little more quiet, like a brief calm before the storm.

The Cathedral of the Holy Family in Saskatoon, SK is seeking an outgoing and engaging full-time Coordinator of Youth Ministry to become part of our parish ministry team.

Registration for our preparation programs for Reconciliation (Confession), Confirmation, and First Communion is up and running. The program starts in late-October.

This is for all children aged 7 & up.

See the information and fill out the registration form at: hfsacraments.ca

A few years ago Jane and I were talking about our bucket lists. I named a few things, then narrowed it down to just one: experience a total solar eclipse. We checked, and saw that one was coming up nearby in 2017. We started planning.

Then and Now.

Looking back.

Jane & I came to work at Holy Family in youth ministry and faith formation six years ago. Six years. It feels like even longer, probably because so much has changed. We started out sharing an office, one which for some reason had a ridiculously huge desk. I recall running up and down the stairs to get stuff from the printer, or to use the washroom, conveniently located right beside Deacon Bob’s desk. I’m sure he loved that.

Update on our Noah moment:

Many of you who were in the church this past Sunday morning may have been aware of a brief flurry of activity as staff and parish members scrambled to deal with a sudden and unexpected deluge of water. For those who were wondering what the problem was, here is a brief recap.
