About Simbang Gabi:
Simbang Gabi is a Filipino tradition of nine Masses held in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary leading up to Christmas. Traditionally, as the faithful troop to churches and chapels, the streets glow with the lights from star lanterns, or parol. The light symbolizes both our salvation and the very Savior who brings this about.
Advent is a solemn purification in preparation for the coming of the Lord, which then builds up to the joyful anticipation at this last stage of waiting.
