A Personal Consecration to St. Joseph

This Lent, as part of the Year of St. Joseph (as proclaimed by Pope Francis), consider embarking on a journey to make a person consecration to St. Joseph, husband of Mary and patron of the Canadian Catholic Church.

During this year of St. Joseph, declared by Pope Francis to mark the 150th Anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as the Patron of the Universal Church, Bishop Mark Hagemoen will re-consecrate the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon to St. Joseph during a special Mass 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 on the Feast of the Presentation / World Day of Consecrated Life.

The live-stream video of this celebration will be posted at saskatoonmass.com as well as on the diocesan YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/saskatoondiocese

Prayer for Reverence for Life

Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon

Almighty God, giver of all that is good,
we thank you for the precious gift of human life:
For life in the womb, coming from your creative power,
For the life of children, making us glad with their freshness and promise,
For the life of young people, hoping for a better world,
For the life of people who are disabled, teaching us that every life has value,
For the life of the elderly, witnessing to the ageless values of patience and wisdom.

Like Blessed Mary,
may we always say “yes” to Your gift.
Help us to realize the sacredness of human life
and to respect and cherish it
from conception to its natural end.

And bring us at last, O Father,
to the fullness of eternal life
in Jesus Christ our Lord.

AMEN.

Behind the Streams

Ah, good ol’ March of 2020. We innocently still thought we would be celebrating Easter together. Ha!

As our lives changed in our attempts to (rather successfully at first) slow the spread of the virus, one shift that quickly took place was offering a live stream of some of our celebrations. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes of that experience.

Behold, Your Mother

“Jesus and I love you even more.”

A curious series of events happened to me back in 1996. It started out simple enough, but quickly changed the direction of my life.

Let’s see...

Attending Mass in person

Our capacity for attendees is limited to 150. If you come to any worship service without pre-registering, you might be able to attend based on this limit, but you may also be turned away.

Update: This schedule will continue only until the end of June.

Bishop Mark has invited everyone to pray and fast for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic and for all those affected by it on the Fridays of the Easter Season (and perhaps beyond).

My First Easter in Quarantine

Well, that was weird.

Easter, the pinnacle of our liturgical year, is usually one of the busiest seasons for me. This year… not so much.

Public celebration of the Mass is resuming, but with restrictions. See: Attending Mass with Restrictions

Even if we cannot gather together, here are some options for still connecting with others and keeping our faith sustained and growing.

I’ve always loved Star Wars. I grew up with it. I watched the movies all the time. I had some of the figurines and a speeder bike that exploded. I regularly checked to see if I had the Force. (I still don’t.) I memorized many of the lines.

Yoda especially said memorable things. “Control, control. You must learn control!” He may look like a muppet, but he’s full of things that sound wise.
