A Journey Through the Sacraments!

Written by
A Journey Through the Sacraments! sxc.hu

We just completed our Vacation Bible School (VBS) for this year. This past week, 70 children took over the church every morning for music, crafts, snacks, games, and discussion, all to learn more about the seven sacraments. It was a blast!

I was leading the Faith station, talking with the children about the sacraments. One thing that struck me was how effective little moments of prayer can be. At times we would stop and have a little time for prayer or reflection, as short as 30 seconds or a minute. Even in these brief times, geared for children nearly 30 years younger than me, I could feel God moving in me. It caught me by surprise.

Often I think that I need to set aside a "suitable" period of time for my prayer to be effective. If I can't set aside at least 5 minutes, or 10 minutes, or 30 minutes, it's not long enough. And if it's not long enough, why bother even starting? And then God bursts in when I simply quiet myself for less than a minute, and all my excuses seem rather silly.

I had hoped that I would be able to show the children something this week, to bring them closer to God. Looks like I was on the receiving end of that one!

Many, many, many thanks to Alyssa for directing our VBS, and to our volunteers who made this week such a fantastic success!

We're already looking towards next year's VBS, which will run August 13-17th, 2012. Mark your calendars! Book your flights! Volunteer for it at the Ministry Fair next month! :-) I'm sure it'll be another amazing week.
